Urs Fair
The land of Ajmer – vibrant, vivacious and full of spirit and life. Hardly do we come across such geographic location that blends history, culture, tradition and entertainment- all in the best possible combination. Fairs have always been an integral part of Ajmer’s culture, be it the magnificent Pushkar fair of the vibrant URS fair. The URS festival is celebrated to commemorate the death anniversary of Sufi saint, Moinuddin Chisti. The festival is celebrated every year in the Islamic month of Rajab, on seeing the moon of Rajab. The festival is celebrated over a span of six days. Melodious ‘Qawwali’ singing and other festivities add up to the beauty and fervor of the festival. The sixth day of the festival is considered to be the most auspicious day. It is said that on the sixth day of the month of Rajab, Moinuddin died.
The URS fair is definitely one of the key attractions to witness in Ajmer.
